We inherited this porcelain of an auroch or bison several years ago and I have been unable to find any information on line. I believe the Rosenthal mark dates it to the 1930’s. It is very similar to some bronze aurochs by August Gaul, although he died in the 1920’s. Is anyone familiar with reference material for Rosenthal marks that might include information on the numbers on the bottom? It is a large piece – 17 in in length. Any idea of the value?
I see your problem,, I can not find it either !! But I did find that it is called “Gaul Buffalo 1047” so you are right about that !! I found where it was listed in Rosenthal catalogue or reference book !1 It also had “Niecol Vol. 2 page 112 1929, but I am not sure that goes with this piece!! Your mark dates to 1936 or 37 I think but it may have been used earlier !! Was really kind of confusing !! But if Gaul died in the 20`s ,,its possible to have been made earlier !! Can`t figure why no others pop up in the search !! Of course that may be a very limited edition !! Its certainly worth more research !!

Decided to check into Gaul sculptures and evidently he did do some that were produced by Rosenthall !! This is resting Bison/Buffalo !! I would inquire about the price of this one first !! Then ask about yours !! Sorry,, I just don`t trust many in this business !! Yours should be worth more than the resting Bison in my opinion !! So be wary of people !!
