This chocolate set has been in my family for as long as I can remember. My mother says the pieces were in the china cabinet of the house her family moved into in 1962. My research shows that the chocolate pot is mold 501 and has the red mark with a star and green wreath reading RS Prussia. The cups’ mark is blue a blue star and wreath reading RS Germany. My question is why would they have different marks? Does this mean either the cups or pot are reproductions? Thank you so much for your feedback. That makes a lot of sense. Another question, would there have been six cups in the original set? Actually two questions . . . any idea as to the value? I do not believe any of the handles have been broken, however three of the cups have minor chips around the top. The pot doesn’t seem to have any chips.
Reproductions
Always good to be aware of this but very unlikely in this case I would have thought.
The change may provide a clue to dating.
Germany officially became a nation 18 January 1871. My guess is that the pot was made before that date and the cups after it. The gap may have been by a year or so, or just months, weeks or even days.
