Hello, I am new here and hoping maybe someone can point me in the direction of getting information on items to see if they are actually something worth hanging on to or not. So many times I have learned that I have actually thrown out something that did have value.
I know this Teddy Bear bank is over 61 years old for sure, possibly older. I can’t tell you if it is made of ceramic or porcelain, that is how little I know. I can tell that the gold trim is very durable because it has not faded or tarnished at all through all these years. I would appreciate any advise anyone could give me.
hi, Your teddy bear bank could be a Shawnee, that was my first thought so I looked in my Shawnee book and they did make banks, I know they made Pig banks and dog banks, trimmed in gold, They used numbers to mark a lot of their stuff. The missing or torn off felt would make no difference to the value, you can even attach a new piece of felt on it. Shawnee has a very nice web site (Shawnee Pottery Club) and it’s free, you can ask questions and send pictures and they can tell if it”s made by Shawnee.
Any marks on it? he’s a cute little devil. Yes it has value, it’s probably ceramic. It is very collectable to people who collect teddy bears and also bank collectors. I don’t know it’s size. it would look cute in a babys room. if it’s 8-10 inches it could very well be valued at $25-50.00.if perfect cond. I know pig piggy banks if from 40-50ties & up sell very good. So hang on to it
There is some print on the bottom of one of his feet. Looks like numbers but I cannot make them out. He is 8 inches high. I would say he is in near perfect condition other than the felt on the bottom of him being aged and some of it missing. My mother got it when my older brother was born and he would have been 61 years old. She passed it down to me to put in my son and daughters baby room 35 years ago. Today he resides in my curio cabinet.
