Hi
My grandma left me a beautiful porcelian female figurine wearing a handkerchief on her head and a full colorful long dress. She is also holding on her left arm a light green water barrel of some sort.
The figurine is about 12″ tall & 5 or 6″ wide from the bottom of the dress.
It’s only marked “Made in Italy”.
We don’t know how old it is or what town/
City it came from. I’m trying to trace back my Italian roots! Please help!
If it says “Made in Italy” it was not purchased there !! The McKinley tariff act requires that all items exported from a country be marked with the country of origin !! That law has been in effect since the late 1800`s but was not strictly enforced until after 1912 and even then sometimes the name of the country only,, such as Italy or Japan was used before WWll, then most used the “Made in” and the country name !!
So its likely your figurine was purchased where she lived “U.S. or otherwise” and after about 1940 or so !!
