I have what I believe to be a candy or trinket dish. Under the glaze it reads ‘LIMOGES FRANCE” in green. On top of the glaze it reads “B. ALTMAN & Co. Paris New York” in blue. I know that Benjamin Altman, founder of B.Altman & Co. was a collector of fine china. I am thinking this dish was imported from France for B.Altman & Co. to decorate and sell. If I am correct, What year could this be and any worth? Thank you for any replies.
You need to post the mark. Limoges, France is a place, not a company. The Castel Porcelain company used a green mark that says “Limoges” in cursive and underlined and stars at either end with the word, “France” underneath.
It was in use between 1950-1979.
For modern french porcelain, it comes down to the artistry of the decoration to determine value, although there are exceptions. Tiffany’s limoges porcelain does pretty well.
