I inherited a service for 12 all marked with the word Victoria above a Crown which has two crossed lines beneath & below these lines the words Bavaria Germany. Does anyone know about this mark? I have only located info on Victoria from Czech. and Austria. This would be from the 1950s or earlier. :woohoo:

Chris,

I use your site, PM & M, all the time to identify marks. I am pleased to meet you. I appreciate your knowledgeable information!

I located on your site several months ago the mark for my china service, but it was in the unidentified marks section with only a photo and no further info. I began to wonder if my Grandmother had been duped. Knowing how knowledgeable my Grandmother was, I found it hard to believe she could have purchased something that was 😛 less than top notch. Thank you for clearing up my confusion. I made a small donation through PayPal!

Thanks,
Randi:P

Shown mark is indeed Winterling from Schwarzenbach, the mark was used at their subsidiary in Roeslau between 1951 and 1956.

Like the “Meissmen” (no typo!) marks, it is a lesser-known marking the company used to undermine existing contracts.

I could not upload a pic of the makers mark. Do you have access to flickr? I have posted 3 pics there of the gravy boat which belongs to this 12 piece service. I am on flickr ~ Randi McKie ~ the set titled China & Porcelain. I will check into the Winterling, Scharzenbach marks. Thanks!:P

It is not Winterling, Scharzenbach. It is exactly like the Victoria, Austria mark but reads Bavaria, Germany. Perhaps the factory or factories was/were located in the area where Austria, Czech. & Bavaria, Germany meet since Victoria, Czech. is another recognized mark??? :S

Sounds like a mark used by Winterling at their factory in Schwarzenbach, 1951+.
