6 3/4″ diameter porcelain low bowl with the rim curved inward. The decoration is all on the top. The porcelain is heavy and thick, particularly on the bottom. Light barely makes it through.

Marked: Nippon Blue Maple leaf from the 1890’s

I think it’s a brush washer. Others suggested it’s the base for a spittoon. Maybe a bulb pot?

Hi, I think what you have is called a “ferner vase” You take a waterlily or a rose or peony bloom leaving just a little stem. fill vase with water then add bloom. Usually they are called a rose bowl. you can also use a flower frog be care not to break the bowl.
