Pottery vases: numbered. Lovely portrait of girl and floral design on each. The bottom of the larger one is imprinted with 2532 or 2539 also with a 1 and UN. Painted with xx. and b809. The second one is imprinted with 2483 or 2403 and “H” or “ii” and painted b 824. and xx1. or xxi. From my Grandmothers estate. An old inventory says circa 1905. My Grandmother’s family was from the Boston/Salem area. They are family favorites and we sure would love to know the artist.

When these were made,,most all of the artists were paid according to how many they produced !! The artist may have had a number assigned or used their initials !! Piecework was common back then !! Most were not artists as such but followed a pattern that the pottery provided !! The other numbers would have indicated the color scheme or the shape of the vase !! Since there is no factory name I would look on ebay for any like yours and numbered in a similar fashion !! Look closely to check to see if these were hand painted or transferware !! Hand painted would show distinct brush strokes and irregularities in the lines !! Transferware is very even in color and line !! Pics are not close enough for me to guess which one but I suspect they are transferware !!
