This is a diorama with two stuffed birds (Ptarmigans)which are in the Grouse family, enclosed in an oval glass. The frame is wood and the silver around the edges is supposed to be genuine although some pieces of it are missing. It’s been in the family for many, many years and probalby dates back to at least the mid 1800’s. It measures 34 1/2″ x 26″ and the glass oval is probably about 18″ wide. Any ideas on value? That is so lovely! Taxidermy prices have just skyrocketed over the last several years for sure. It’s something people are just fascinated by. Good time to be selling. I have bought and sold a few items so not an expert at all but my two cents–probably $200 to $300 with the fame and silver taken into consideration. Possibly much more.

For just a bird perhaps mounted the prices seem to range from 50-$250 depending on the bird but who can tell if it’s vintage? 🙂 But yours tells a much better story and clearly by the frame and all the accouterments it is clearly vintage.

I would get a 2nd opinion, but breathtakingly beautiful! I wish I could afford to own it!
