I recently acquired a small drawing that is a combination ink and airbrush (or similar technique. It was created on the back of what appears to be a “wet paint” sign.It is signed David Smith 1928.
I confess that I do not know much about modern artists.
After I got this picture I tried to find any example of David Smith art work and looked for similarities in hand writing or style.
The signature does not appear to me to be similar, but it is from a time when David Smith would have been a student, and there for this piece might have been an exercise in technique.
Of course it may have nothing to do with David Smith the modern artist and just created by some one named David Smith, or someone wrote David Smith 1928 on the thing.
I contacted the David Smith estate and they have no record of this drawing.
Can anyone offer help on my trying to authenticate this drawing?
