Hi- I have a small collection of old time photographs. They are on some type of onion skin paper and are backed with some type of manila paper. They are of famous people, places, things. Somehow I became aware of the name “Steglitz” when I researched for information on these items. The interesting thing which is why I think they have value is that the photos bled through to the backing paper and the backing paper has a watermark embedded in it that is dated 1865. Can anyone tell me what I might have and if they have any exceptional value. Thanks, Bob
The date that is on the watermark may or may not be the date of production !! Onion skin paper was typically used for making copies !! Is the name of the mill on the watermark. Einstein was not born until 1879 so I am guessing these were to be formatted into a publication of some sort !!
Where did you find the name Steglitz ?? Alfred Steglitz was a photographer in NY !! He was born in 1864 so the 1865 date wouldn`t coincide with his work at that time !! He was popular in early 20th century and was the husband of artist Georgia O`Keefe !!
How did you come by these pics and from where ??
I know some of the pictures are of famous people because I know these subjects. One is of Albert Einstein, another is Rodan’s “The Thinker”, another is of “London Bridge” just to name a few. I’m more curious about the format of what they are presented on. The onion skin with the manila backing and the watermark dated 1865.
