I have a pair of small open pewter measures. (Pic only shows one) They are only 2 1/4 inches (5.7cm) tall and hold less than 2oz (american). They are stamped on the bottom with what looks like a German Eagle or a Griffin of some type. There is also a Fleur-de-Lis stamp mark. They have letters that encircle the eagle, but some have rubbed off. From what I can glean, the letters are L. A _ _ _ _ . AN . There are circular markings on the bottom, that makes me think they were worked on a lathe.

The shape is very different from the English bulbous style measure. They flare out at the center and go straight down. The thumb pads on the handles are very flat. There are sets of incised rings on the outside of the measure, 2 at the top, 3 in the middle and 3 near the bottom.

My research is leading me toward German or Austrian, but could be American too. German marks are not well documented. I’ve searched the web and gone to my local Library, but can’t pin these down.

If I can’t find the maker, it would be great if I could pin down age and origin. Maybe someone can help with that by the form? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[quote]Yes, they are way too big and I can’t make them any smaller. This site really does need to do an update! Any newer camera takes at least 7mb pics if not bigger. I did post them on Flickr, but I kept getting an error that those links were too big too.

I posted them on an eBay discussion group too so I’m going to try and post that think right now. Wish me luck!

No matter what camera you use if you download PhotoImpressions.!! You can easily resize the pics and use the editing feature to get the best and most accurate view !! Takes about a minute to do it !!
