I have this absolutely gorgeous DIVIDED SERVING BOWL having a beautiful, ornate foliate handle decorated with applied berries and delicate leaves. It measures 10″ long x 10″ wide x 6″ high from the bottom (base) to top of the handle. The outer edge of the bowl (the highest point is 3″ from table top to edge of bowl) is deeply fluted with decorative channels running vertically. The inside of the bowl is almost a matt silver finish and shows a few small spots of discoloration and some very light pitting. It is stamped underfoot SIMPSON HALL MILLER & CO., and was made circa 1895 – 1904.
I am trying to determine what this was used for exactly. Someone said that it might be a berry bowl that was used to hold fresh berries on one side and a heavy whipping cream on the other. I’ve searched the internet and have found nothing like this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Would this be considered Late Victorian?
