Well,, these are foundry stamped and look to be Spanish Mission style or Spanish/Colonial Revival which was most common in California !! Thats why I asked if you were in CA !! Of course other areas also used this style but it was less prevalent !! I know you were likely thinking Pennsylvania Dutch but what you would have found there would have been a simpler strap hinge or L bracket hinge !! Pennsylvania Dutch would likely have been hand made rather than stamped !! Looks like this hardware had a hard life !! Probably came from a salvage project !! Look at the second house in the link above,, thats the type of house I would have expected to see this hardware on !! If the other number on the back of the face plate is 1903 that is likely the date of mfr !!
By any chance are you in California ?? Where did you get this hardware ??
No I do not, I live in Pennsylvania and I purchased a lot at a public auction and they were in the bottom of the box. After I discovered them I tried to find who the original owner was but the auctioneer and staff were unable to locate the seller. I have had them for quite some time now and cannot get a solid answer on where they actually originated from. Do you have any knowledge that could help me solve this mystery? Any and all knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.
The number stamped on the back is 1703 could this really be the date? Also what in your opinion is the value of this hardware. Once again thank you very much for the reply.
