the item was found among the collections of a Catholic religious community. It might be an altar piece or maybe a piece that is part of a dining service set?

i have an item that at first glace looks like a candle stick. but has a finial at the top, where the flame would be. also around the bottom are little brackets that look like they should hold something.

it appears to be silver, with a tarnish to it, but probably plate, as i cannot find a silver mark anywhere. it is not all together very heavy for its size. at the top below the finial, there are small rectangular holes. at the bottom, where the tube meets the base, there are ball bearings inside, to allow it to turn easily. (they fell out when i unscrewed the base to investigate inside! 😮 )

the thing measures 10-1/2″ tall and 4″ in diameter at the base.

shflmicciche@sbcglobal.net 🙂 thank you!!

What you call ball bearings are probably the weights that came out of the base !! Many things were weighted with them to make sure they stay upright !! Not used much today though !!
