I have, what I believe is a “mourning,” sterling picture frame which is marked 978, sterling, & what looks like a W, or two V’s crossed over each other! Can anyone tell me whom the maker is? Thank you all in advance!

It would be unusual to have a greater silver standard,, but I guess its possible !! You never know about some of these old things!! Yes that would mean that 978 parts fine silver and the rest could be anything !! That would make the item very soft so do not use anything on it that would scratch !!

The number is 925 which is the American silver standard !! Wortz & Voorhis for DC Bourquin,, Port Richmond NY !! Out of business by 1915 !!

Thank you so much!…Never would i have thought of that maker! Although the #’s are 978, would that change anything? I doubt it…just means MORE silver, right?
Ok, thank you again for the direly needed information. I so appreciate any help I could get…..Muah!
