I have a silk kimono my husband got in China in the 1980’s. It soaked in Katrina flood water for 2 1/2 weeks. We dried it our and stored it. It did not shread like our clothing did. It is black and red with gold threads. The reds ran in the water but it is still beautiful and we want to display it. I have taken it to several dry cleaners who have all suggested dipping it in cool water in the bathtub. I am reluctant to do this. I have not found a textile conservator to advise me. Any advise? Discussion please?

Hi, late reply, but I would try the cold water with shampoo added. Might not remove the red but, it will clean the garment. Silk is easy to wash. I have done so for many years.
