My mother says this is a Kewpie doll, but I have been wading through hundreds of pictures to try and identify it. I have looked through pictures of Frozen Charlotte Dolls, Penny Dolls, chalkware dolls, plaster dolls, carnival prize dolls, among others. It belonged to my grandmother- so it would be 1920’s to 1930’s. It is 3″ high, and it is made of plaster or clay or something similar- it is rough and unfinished on the bottom, and it is definitely from a mold. So far, It most resembles “carnival chalkware” dolls that I have seen. It had a signature or price on the back, but it is mostly worn off. And what an interesting paint color!
