Bidding Runs High for Bill Bowerman Sprint Shoes Prototype

A prototype of the sprint shoes tested by John Mays in the 1970s sold for $162,500 at Sotheby’s on June 26, 2020. The sneakers were custom-made by Bill Bowerman, who co-founded Nike and made other special shoes. He wrote May’s name on the sprint shoes. They were accompanied by a letter about workouts.
