Kovels’ December 2022 newsletter features vintage jukeboxes, Fantoni ceramics, creative 20th-century stools, antique bells, and toy model kits, all with photos and prices.

More than 500 coin-operated machines from a single owner’s collection were auctioned recently in Pennsylvania. In addition to carousels, slot machines and music boxes, the collection included some of the best-known jukebox brands, and examples are highlighted in Kovels On Antiques & Collectibles December 2022 newsletter. Pictured are jukeboxes by Rock-Ola, AMI, Seeburg and Wurlitzer with prices ranging from $120 for a Wurlitzer wall selector box all the way to $18,000 for “The Colonial,” a shapely jukebox also by Wurlitzer with a glowing amber panel dotted with stars.

With the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in mind, the Kovels take a look at bells. An Indiana auction included 30 lots of antique bells and Kovels’ December issue focuses on sleigh bells, harness bells and toys with bells that can add a festive touch (and sound!) to holiday decoration.

A fall Chicago auction included more than 100 stools that had been collected by a furniture dealer in Los Angeles. The humble stool can take on a different dimension when a creative artist designs it, and Kovels’ latest newsletter pictures a selection of iconic stools by notable 20th century designers such as Isamu Noguchi, Warren McArthur, Gaetano Pesce and others, along with their high bids.

Italian ceramicist Marcello Fantoni made pottery that combined ancient Italian techniques with Modernist flair. A Connecticut auction featured 17 Fantoni pieces. See the top lot bottle-form vase with painted abstract figures and textured glaze that sold for $3,300, along with an asymmetric bowl, tray, and other vases with bold designs made by Fantoni during the 1950s and ’60s in the December newsletter.

And last but not least, unbuilt toy model kits are now a “find” for collectors who search for vintage kits in original boxes. An auction in Rhode Island offered more than 60 model kits, and Kovels’ latest newsletter features a selection of pristine kits by Japanese toymakers that depict intergalactic vehicles and sci-fi characters.
