Nintendo “Donkey Kong” video game sold for $72,000 in a January 2021 Heritage auction. This copy of “Donkey Kong” is the only known copy in factory-sealed condition. Donkey Kong, introduced in 1981, is Nintendo’s mascot. The Donkey Kong games saved the company financially when first introduced. Donkey Kong is a fictional character in the Donkey Kong and Mario video game series.
If you are at a garage sale and happen upon an unopened, 1985 Super Mario Bros. video game, buy it. A mint, unopened copy of the U.S. version of the game recently sold for $114,000 at Heritage Auctions, breaking the previous record at the auction house for a Super Mario Bros. game in similar condition that sold for $100,150. The game was the first in the popular Super Mario Bros. series. This copy was part of a short production run of the game packaged in boxes with a cardboard hang-tab underneath the plastic. This indicates that it was part of the first produced after Nintendo started using shrink-wrap to seal the games.
