William Moorcroft worked as a designer for James Macintyre and Company of Burslem, England, from 1898 to 1913, then started his own firm. His most familiar wares are decorated with floral and fruit designs on dark blue backgrounds. Huge numbers of these pieces were in hardware stores, drugstores, and gift shops in Canadian towns in the 1940s.
