British designer, writer, and artist William Morris (1834–1896) was the leader of the nineteenth-century Arts and Crafts movement in England. He rejected the methods of mass production and excessive decoration of the Victorian era and advocated a return to the medieval traditions of design, craftsmanship, and community.
