Jean Daum (1825-1885) founded a glassworks in Nancy, France, in 1878. Early wares were cut and enameled, often with heraldic crests. In 1885 sons Auguste (1853-1909) and Antonin (1864-1930) established an art department and introduced Daum’s famous art nouveau pâte-de-verre and cameo glass.
