In 1961 the first International Exhibition of Modern Jewelry was held in London. Experienced jewelers and many artists who usually worked as painters or sculptors made jewelry for the exhibition. They used abstract designs and unusual materials like bone, glass, or beach pebbles; metals like iron, bronze, brass, and, of course, silver and gold; as well as gold granulation, acrylics, resins, rubber, anodized aluminum, and carved gemstones.
