Cameos
Cameos were made by the Greeks as early as the second century B.C. The Romans, too, created cameo jewelry. Cameos were popular in Europe from the sixteenth century. Lava, opals, cornelian, onyx, and other stones, as well as glass and shells, are sometimes carved to make cameos.
