Hair and Mourning Jewelry
Beginning in the sixteenth century, jewelry that contained human hair was worn either as a love token or in remembrance of a dead loved one who had died. Locks of hair—braided, coiled or flat— were set in a frame to make a brooch, locket, pendant, or ring.
