Q: I have a tin Pepsi-Cola tray that is 14 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. I think it’s original. Can you tell me how old it is and how much it’s worth?
A: Pepsi-Cola was invented in 1898 but was not trademarked until 1903. This image of a coy girl was used on Pepsi-Cola trays in 1910, but the trays had an elaborate border with the words “Delicious” at the top and “Healthful” at the bottom. Your tray may be a more recent reproduction. Several different Pepsi-Cola logos have been used. The one on your sign is called “double dash” because the words “Pepsi” and “Cola” are separated by two dashes. The modern logo with a single hyphen was introduced in 1951. All types of Pepsi-Cola memorabilia are collected, and reproductions are being made. An original tray could sell for about $1,000.
