Q: We found this plate in a box of trash on a neighbor’s tree lawn. It was part of a set of dishes, most of which were broken. Can you tell me who made it and if it has any value?

A: Your plate was made by George Jones & Sons Ltd. of Stoke, Staffordshire, England. The pottery operated under various names from 1861 to 1951. It was called Trent Pottery from c.1864 to 1907 and Crescent Pottery from c.1907 to 1957. This bread and butter plate is the Monmouth shape, introduced in 1922. Monmouth dishes have embossed rib-and-urn borders and decal centers. The pattern on your dish was pictured in a 1924 George Jones & Sons catalog. Value of your dish is about $10.
