Q: I was wondering if you could tell me a little about this china hutch I recently inherited from my dad. There is a stamp on the back that says “RJ Horner.”
A: R.J. Horner & Co. was founded in New York City by Robert J. Horner in 1866. The company made mahogany and oak furniture with ornate carvings of winged griffins, gargoyles, caryatids, cherubs, and other decorative features. In 1915 Horner retired and his company merged with the George C. Flint Co. to form Flint & Horner. Furniture made by R.J. Horner is very collectible and can sell for several hundred to several thousand dollars.
