Q: This lamp has been in our family for as far back as I can remember. It’s 18 inches high and has a 13-inch-diameter shade. The base is embossed “PLB & G Co. 1806.” What you can tell us about this lamp?
A: Your lamp was made by the Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass and Glass Co. in about 1920. The company was in business from 1901 to 1926. Nicholas Kopp opened a company he called Kopp Glass in Pittsburgh in 1900. He renamed the company Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass and Glass Co. in 1901. It was also known as “Pilabrasgo. ” It went bankrupt in 1926 and Kopp reorganized as Kopp Glass, Inc. That company now makes industrial and technical glass. Lamps like yours sell for about $300.
