I‘ll be at the National Federation of Bottle Clubs’ National Show in Wilmington, Ohio, this weekend (Roberts Centre, Wilmington, Ohio, I-71, Exit 50) looking for the old food product bottles we’ve collected for years. This show is huge, has displays, lectures, and lots of old and new collector friends. It runs August 6, 7, and 8. If you can, please stop and say hello and tell me about your collection.

I’m sorry we didn’t meet at the auction but I did see your Lappeus Premium Soda sell for $470. Were you happy with the price?
Terry
Hi Terry — It was such fun having you at our Nat’l Bottle Show. Thank you for joining us.
I wish I had read these comments before the show, and I would have looked up that Cobalt Blue Lappeus soda bottle owner, and blogged about it. My photos of the show can be seen on the Findlay (Ohio) Bottle Club’s website, finbotclub.blogspot.com
To respond to the other commenter’s questions:
To find out tons more about any bottles you have – the age, style, and how to research values – check out these informational websites:
http://www.sha.org/bottle/
http://www.bottlebooks.com/basics.htm
For the Chicago bottles — check out this Bottle Club list for the info on the 2 clubs in Illinois (they don’t have websites yet) — http://www.littlerhodybottleclub.org/club/clubs_nosites.html
Other than the early pre-Avon ”California Perfume Co.” bottles, modern Avon bottles are generally not mixed in with antique bottles. They are a separate collector category, with their own ”world”. I would suggest reading this article –
http://findavon.com/newsletters/v2i8.html — and looking for this book — Bud Hastins Avon Collectors’ Encyclopedia
Hope that info helps.
And I hope to see any and all of you at a bottle show in the future! –Marianne Dow msdowantiques.com
On your way home from the bottle show, if time permits, you might like to check out the current Ohio Glass Museum Show (through Sept. 7)in Lancaster, Ohio. Delightful exhibit of Anchor Hocking and Gay Fad Studios (mid-century modern) glassware. Before flying back to CA we also visited the Nat’l USAF Musuem in Dayton.
I have over 1000 bottles, mostly chicago area from 1890 to 1910, that I wish I could get to a show to sell.
I’ll be at the Wilmington, Oh Bottle Show Auction to sell a Colbolt Blue Wm.W.Lappeus Premium Soda/Mineral Water 10-sided beauty. I can hardly wait to see what just “a pretty bottle” can bring me!
I have come accross som old AVON bottles will they be showing AVON at the show?
I have a few bottles that look older than 20th cent. Is there a reference link you can send me so I can do some research on the bottles, please. I didn’t get very far with glassmessages, by the way.
Thanks
Christian
Hello,
I live in CA, but was born and lived most of my life in Ohio. I wish I could go to the show. I do not collect bottles, but I have a nice one that survived the 1906 S.F. earthquake. I described it to ‘Value My Stuff Now’, for history, not just price. They could date it, but didn’t know what it was used for or the company name. I think the key to the bottle is the celluloid lid that has an embossed CDC on it. Can you tell me what that represents, please? The bottle is 27″ tall, 10.5″ dia in the body, with a 4″x1.5″ screw cap (lid). It is medium amber with a blob seal on the side below the neck, with a crest.
Perhaps you will see something like it at the show. I want to attach a picture or two, but I do not see that options here.
Thank you for your time,
Paul M. Sensibaugh
