I have not seen a 50% drop in Meissen prices at auction in the last 20 years. If anything, they have steadily risen. I typically buy the figurines, but even cabinet cups and saucers are either holding steady or their prices are rising at auctions.
I think the major reason Meissen has dropped overall is the fact that their beautiful dishes are too hard to use and clean. The collectible value remains, but anyone wishing to use the wares finds that an inability to use the microwave or the dishwasher a deterrent. I would be surprised if the fabulous figurines have dropped that much. They remain a symbol of the wonderful craftsmanship, determination and devotion to detail of a different time. The longer they survive intact, the more valuable they become. Please let me know of any “50% OFF” sales!!
