Just sold—a dime—for almost $2 million. The 1894-S Barber dime was auctioned by Heritage in Tampa on January 8, 2016, for $1,997,500. Of the original 19 dimes that went into circulation, fewer than 10 are still known to exist. About 2.5 million of these dimes were minted, and almost all were melted down when demand for the coins dropped because of a financial crisis.
