This just came into our shop. It is a miniature carved Buddha in a bamboo box with double opening doors to make a small “altar”. It’s trimmed in gold paint. The entire box is about 8″ x 4″ x 3″ and appears to be quite old.

We know nothing about this item. I am assuming that it is some kind of “travel Buddha” that fit nicely into a knapsack or other case. Can anyone offer me a clue as to age, actual purpose and possible value? There are a few condition issues such as the “roof” needing reattachment and many scrapes and scratches, but Buddha appears to be pretty much all there. I do not know if there have been any repairs over the years other than what is needed now.

We have to sell it as a consignment and I have to get the best price possible for it. The URL to a slide show of photos is below. Thanks so much!
