Hi,
I’m a Newbie to this forum and hoping for some advice.
I just purchased a pair (almost similar) of cast iron armchairs.
I am unsure of their value and don’t want to make a mistake. So I would like to know if I should just clean them up and leave them in their original condition or to restore it from scratch and
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Mizou
These appear to be Victorian era outdoor chairs !! Each piece is cast then attached with screws or bolts,,is that correct ?? If I were to guess,, it looks like original paint on this one or can you see any other color between the top coat and the bare metal ?? If you re-paint you lose 30 to 50% of any value !! I would leave them as is,, just clean them with any good spray cleaner then let dry, apply a light coat of oil, then wipe off excess well !! They are charming as-is !! Where did you find these chairs ?? Can you post a pic of the other one ?? Are those ball & claw feet ?? Look on the underside of the seat or on the cameo back for a foundry mark !!
