I have an old (possibly antique) capodimonte basket of flowers (handed down from grandmother at least). Has a black crown with the N under it. Crown has 7 points on top. Says Capodimonte under the N. I cannot find the black mark or the crown with 7 points. Anybody familiar with its age? Thanks!

Im sure it was produced by a Naples factory but it is not of the original capodimonte factory. A guess without seeing a clear photo of your mark I would say it was made by Marchese Ginori, After acquiring the Capo-di-Monte molds in 1821 the Marchese Ginori marked pieces with a seven point crown with N under. I would check Marchese Ginori marks as more than one was used & see if it matches and if it does you can get a time line of production.

Thanks for the reply. My family is from Naples. The piece was inherited by me from my family in Naples. I am certain it was a Naples factory. I saw the site you referenced before I posted. I do not believe it is complete.

your piece is not of the original capodimonte factory which began production in 1759. This is a wonderful site that explains the history & makers marks of the original Capodimonte ( The Royal factory in Naples) http://www.onlinecollectibles.com/faq/capodimonte2.htm This does not mean your piece is not made by a one of the best factories in Italy You will just need to track down the factory that made your piece.
