I have an original oil painting from 1886 by H C Davis. H G perhaps. Anyone have any idea what the value might be. Frame is likely original and is in good but not great condition. Painting is fine. No damage other than age and dust. I don’t want to sell it in our family’s estate sale if it is something especially valuable. Just looking for some advice and any information on potential value. Resources too.

Nice to meet you !! I am also in Texas,,NE Texas !! I just did a general search for “HG Davis paintings” when I didn`t find an HC Davis listed !!
The first four are said to be HG Davis works !! Will look more later !!
I paid the fee & checked the sale price of the painting in U.K. in ‘15. It was a very sad 20 GBP. You can’t even buy a print at Hobby Lobby for that!!! That’s about as unimpressive as it gets LOL

Are you in the UK ?? Found several HG Davis such as the one above !! Many were floral still life paintings !! Can not see yours well enough to tell the style or the signature to match it !! These sites are subscription only so couldn`t see sale price !! You might take it to a gallery and see if they know !!
I’m in Texas. Thank you so much for your reply!! I think you’re right. It must be a G. It looks like a capital C with a line straight through the middle bottom. I live in Austin but my family and our farm are in Lubbock TX. I thought I had taken a better picture but… :/
The estate sale is next weekend so I doubt I can get it to a gallery anytime soon. I think I’ll NOT sell it. Keep it and look into it some more.

If you have time that would be great. I’m not going to sell it at the sale. I may price it what I think it’s worth haha and if it doesn’t sell I don’t care. But IF you find time to find more info that would be awesome!! No biggie if not. 🙂 If I had more time right now I’d happily do more but I’m overwhelmed as it is pricing an entire farmhouse FULL of items & running it only with my Dad. Wish us luck EEEK
