Trying to figure out what to even call this. Looks to be carved or etched in a heavy resin type board and then inked? Its signed W. Hecht (I believe Wilhelm Hecht) and I got it from an auction several years ago. The only thing I could find was a photo in a book titled L’Egypte on Abe Books UK. The picture in the book is titled “Un Jeune Decendant Du Prophete (Young descendent of the prophet)
This etching is signed and looks identical to the photo in the book.
My question is, are these something that people would make reproductions of or is this the etching that made the print for this book.
I’m at a loss for value (if any) or what to even call this type of artwork.
Thank you for any insight.

Its possible that this is a printing plate !! The etching was inked and paper laid across and pressed to create a paper print !! Other than that,, I have no clue !! It certainly is not typical and I could find nothing with that title !! I would take it to a good art gallery and ask about it !!

yes I considered that but I also thought if that were the case, wouldn’t the image be reversed? hmm
Thank you for your input
