In 1922 a box of 10 Chitimacha Indian baskets was shipped from Louisiana to Philadelphia merchant Charles M. Biddle Jr. He may have agreed to sell or display the baskets to help the tribe, but all 10 were recently discovered still packed in their original shipping box. The baskets sold at a fall Neal auction for $42,900, more than double their presale estimate.
