Here on the NE seacoast, these “coconut scrapers” are used a lot in the commercial clamming business.
Pictured is a coconut grater/scraper, iron, c.1940 or later.
I got on to reply a scraper of some type, then saw someone said an Andiron. It does look like it could be one half of an Andiron. But as a complete item, I would say it is a scraper/grater and could be used on coconuts as some have said, or other thick dense fruits or veggies that have to be shucked and scraped to reach the meaty insides.
I have no idea what this could be used for, but like the idea of a coconut scraper or bivalve shucker. Both seem reasonable! But on the other hand, always enjoy the unique responses from” Hookman”!!
It looks like a bivalve shucker. It was used by shell fishermen to shuck clams, oysters, scallops, cherrystones, quahogs or what have you in a fast, efficient manner.
Hello
It’s a stroke (scraper) for coconut.
Watch the Polynesian coconut shoots.
An andiron?
Looks like a Firedog.
Andiron
This seems to be a very odd shaped coconut scraper for getting the flesh out of a coconut.
Antique iron coconut scraper/grater.
A carriage step
Antique iron coconut grater or scrapper.
I believe its a shoe scraper
For shining shoes.
A cobblers tool
This is obviously a child’s toy doll in the form of an Olympic athlete doing push-ups. There’s his head, his feet are together, and his hands and arms are in the prototypical push-up position. Excellent likeness I do believe.
To me it looks like a boot scraper?
Something to be used with logs.
