Candy Containers

Candy containers have been popular since the late Victorian era. Collectors have long favored the glass containers, but now all types, including tin and papier-mache, are collected. Probably the earliest glass container sold commercially was the Liberty Bell made in 1876 for sale at the Centennial Exposition. Thousands of designs were made until the cost became too high in the 1960s. By the late 1970s, reproductions were being made and sold without the candy. Many of the pieces from the 20th century are copies of candy containers from the late 19th century. Containers listed here are glass unless otherwise described.
