Durant Kilns

Durant Kilns

Durant Kilns was founded by Jean Durant Rice in 1910 in Bedford Village, New York. He hired Leon Volkmar to oversee production. The pottery made both tableware and artware. White faience was the earliest product made. Turquoise-blue and yellow wares were made later. Rice died in 1919, leaving Leon Volkmar to run the business. After 1930 the name Durant Kilns was changed and only the Volkmar mark was used. For more information, explore our identification guides for American art pottery and its makers.
