Nanking

Nanking is a type of blue-and-white porcelain made in China from the late 1700s to the early 1900s. It was shipped from the port of Nanking. It is similar to Canton wares (listed here in the Canton category), but it is a transfer pattern, not hand painted. The blue design was almost the same, a landscape, building, trees, and a bridge. But a person was sometimes on the bridge on a Nanking piece. The “spear and post” border was used, sometimes with gold added.
