Canton china is blue-and-white ware made near the city of Canton, in China, from about 1795 to the early 1900s. It is hand decorated with a landscape, pagoda, bridge, boats, and trees and a special border. There is never a person on the bridge. The “rain and cloud” border was used. It is similar to Nanking ware, which is listed in this book in its own category. For more information, explore our identification guides for Canton and other Chinese export porcelain.
